General Purpose: ID 201 gives a general overview of Interior Design, its purpose, its place in the workforce and its contribution to quality of life issues both individually and corporately. In preparation for a career in Interior Design, you will become knowledgeable in the areas of principles and elements of design, industry terminology, color, lighting, universal design, furniture, materials, building systems, space planning, art & architectural history and general business practices.

An integral part of the profession is communication and teamwork. Therefore assignments and projects mandate class participation, individual opinions, brainstorming, constructive criticism and self and peer evaluation. In other words, what you bring to the class is equally as important as what you get out of the class.

Upon completion of this course, you will have an understanding of the dynamics of Interior Design and be ready to embrace the finer details of each of these areas with subsequent required areas of study.
